Slappy – The sea lion from the film Slappy and the Stinkers. One quick way to tell a sea lion from a seal is to look at its ears. Like their land-living relatives, marine mammals primarily communicate vocally – think of dolphin whistles or the famous song of humpback whales. Seals have quieter vocalizations, grunting softly. The seal pups created a variety of noises, including gasp-like sounds and gurgling noises, as they subtly moved around the camera frame—all while melting millions of hearts.
